What To Keep In Mind When Choosing a Travel Blanket
These are the points you need to keep in mind when choosing a travel blanket.

- Size
This may be the most important thing to consider, there maybe nothing as frustrating as trying to cover yourself with a travel blanket that leaves part fo your body uncovered despite your best efforts. It is usually better to err on the side of a bigger blanket. A good size for most adults will be 65″+
- Fabric/Texture
There are so many textures to choose from, you can get a smooth silky fell, or a warm fluffy texture, some blankets have reversible sides, with one being smooth and silky, and the other having a more fluffy feel. Some of the more common fabrics used are:
- fleece
- silk
- wool
- cashmere
- cotton
- micro-fleece
- Portability
With so much else to carry on a trip, it helps if your travel blanket comes with its own compact carrying case. Fortunately most blankets do come with a carrier bag or they fold up into a carrier bag. It is also important that the blanket is compact and lighweight, so that it doesn’t add weight to your total baggage weight.
- Care
If you will be traveling a lot, and may not have use of professional laundering options, you will need to get a blanket that is easy to care for. Machine washable and dryer friendly are the best ones to get.
- Extras
For anyone who likes to get the most for their money, these little extras do make a difference. An advantage of extras that come with a travel blanket are that they will coordinate with the blanket itself. Extras may include one ore more of the following:
- A pocket to keep track of small travel items like earplugs, eyeshade or an iPod.
- A foot pocket to keep your toes warm and toasty.
- An eye-mask
Note:
A good quality travel blanket could last for a very long time, so do not forget to keep the above points in mind while you are shopping.

Cashmere travel blankets are one of the favorite travel blankets, for comfort, warmth, durability and outright pampering. Cashmere is one of the softest and most luxurious materials available for blankets, it feels silky and light and looks beautiful and glamorous, once experienced it is hard to resist. The special characteristics of this wool are that it is light, warm and cozy, yet void of the scratchy feel of other types of wool.

Cashmere is a highly exclusive wool which is in high demand and there are lots of warm clothing produced with it. The most common being sweaters, coats, shawls, socks and blankets. Probably the most popular are the sweaters, followed closely by shawls and throws and blankets.
Because cashmere is so beautiful and at the same time warm, lightweight, compact and comfortable; many people will double up their cashmere throws or even a large cashmere shawl into a travel blanket. while using a shawl or throw as a travel blanket does work, if you would like a harmonized cashmere travel kit with its own carry bag and extras, then you will need one specially made cashmere travel blanket set.

So Why Would You Need To Get a Travel Blanket?
There are few things as uncomfortable as being cold, but having your own travel blanket gives you the security of knowing you can keep warm at the drop of a hat even miles from home. There is just something so comforting to be able to cuddle up and feel cozy when you are tired and/or cold.
Traveling may be essential, either for pleasure or work, but not all of us love flying especially when you consider the security lines, drafty air cabins, crying babies, rude flight attendants and gruesome airport delays. Having your own travel blanket really adds a measure of comfort to your flight. You can feel comfortable knowing that the travel blanket is your own, and not an airline provided airplane blanket that you have no idea when it was last washed, who last used it and for what it was used. Brrrr.
The Low down on Airline Blankets
You would think that with all the added stress you have to go through when traveling, that by the time you got to your seat you could just lower your seat and relax. Ahh! but then the cabin is too chilly and when you ask for an airline blanket, you have to rent it?
Now even though you might understand the necessity of cutting costs in this economic climate, and would be inclined to ignore the cost of renting the airline blanket, just to keep away the chill. The Surprising fact is you can get a cheap travel blanket for the cost of renting an airplane blanket, and renting the blankets provided by the airline just twice will put you out for the same money as buying a reasonable quality new fleece travel blanket. All this even if you do ignore the much better quality of a purchased travel blanket.
And to add to that, their blankets are not even subject to basic hygiene, some blankets sent for testing have been discovered to have everything from mucus, teardrops, and lipstick to bodily fluids that I will allow you to imagine on your own. Given this would you really like to use the airline blanket offered anyway? I guess not!
Another advantage of having your own travel blanket, it that once you have one it can double up as a blanket throw on a chilly night at your destination, a picnic blanket when you take a hike or other excursion, and back home you will still have many uses for it.
Finding the Best Travel Blanket for You
Ok, so now that you want to bring a travel blanket on your journey, which one do you get? With the wide range of travel blankets available now, it can sometimes seem daunting to choose. Fortunately with a bit of help it is possible to find the best travel blanket for you and never ever have to use an airline blanket again!
Whatever your needs you will find what you need, as there are blankets in every texture, color, size and price range.
If you need a travel blanket mostly in place of an airline blanket, there is a choice from reasonably priced, good quality fleece blankets to the mid range propriety fabric blankets and styles, up to the luxury range such as a silk or cashmere travel blankets. And if you also need the blanket to double up as a rug or throw at your destination for extra warmth, most will do the job just fine.
If you want a blanket for the car, boat or RV, then maybe you should get a heated electric travel blanket. Keeping one or more as part of your emergency kit in your car is also great for whenever you might need an rug for an impromptu picnic, concert or as a stadium rug.
If you are getting a travel blanket anyway, it might make more sense to get a travel pillow and blanket set! The price difference is minimal, so you get to spend the same money and get a matching set of accessories too.

Indulge in a Luxury Travel Blanket
For the ultimate indulgence and pampering on a long trip you should try a luxury travel blanket. Surly there can be nothing as gloriously luxurious as falling asleep with the feel of pure silk or cashmere, suede or one of those newly engineered ultra soft fabrics next to your skin. With all the negative changes to customer support going on in the airline world, carrying your little bit of luxury will only add to your comfort and pleasure while traveling.
Ummm… Heaven in a blanket.
A luxury travel blanket utilizes the natural properties of the fabrics used, to create a travel blanket that is super breathable, able to whisk away perspiration, and is yet able to retain your body heat.
Created to look super chick, they are available in many of the fashion colors. You do not have to worry about looking put together, wherever you may be. When you need some extra warmth, like curled up in front of the fireplace during the holidays all cozy reading a good book or watching a movie, you can be sure to be warm and yet still look chic.
The most common materials used for a luxury travel blanket are silk and cashmere. Often the silk and cashmere are combined together to form a reversible blanket with one side silk and the other cashmere.
If you will be traveling in cooler climes a cashmere travel blanket is lightweight, beautiful and is breathable with great heat retaining properties. The silk travel blankets on the other hand while also being breathable and having great heat retaining properties, are great for whipping sweat off the skin and keeping you comfortable even when the temperature rises.
An added bonus getting a luxury travel blanket is, not only will your travel blanket be super cool but it is also easy to care for and long lasting.
Go on indulge! Why not?

Get a Lightweight Travel Blanket
That is Easy to Carry Along Anywhere
The lightweight travel blanket is almost a “misnomer” as most travel blankets are extremely lightweight. Yet even in this group, of generally lightweight blankets, there are some lightweight travel blankets that stand out from the pack.
We have reviewed and selected some the most lightweight travel blankets for those of you who need to maximize on both weight and bulkiness, without compromising on warmth. These blankets really standout, without compromising an iota in terms of quality or effectiveness.
The best lightweight blankets, that maximize on both warmth and softness are the 100% silk travel blanket. These are usually made of silk noil, which seems to really pack in the warmness despite its lightweight (a good example is the DreamSacks® Silk Eye Mask, Blanket & Pillow Case).
Another great lightweight travel blanket candidate, is any travel blankets made out of CoolMax, a new fabric made by DuPont Textiles and Interiors (now Invista) which comes with a smaller price tag then silk (a good example is the Design Salt Cocoon CoolMax® Travel Blanket). The CoolMax fabic, which has been described as the perfect balance between basic Cotton ans silk. It does not quite get to the lightweightness (is that even a word) of silk, but does make an incredibly lightweight travel blanket.
Below are some other travel blankets that make a good lightweight travel blanket candidate:
- Samsonite Travel Blanket
- This is a cozy fleece blanket, that is warm yest lightweight. I does not seem to be available from the main online stores, but there will usually be few in eBay.
- Cabin Cuddler Travel Blanket & Pillow
- Auburn Tigers Tailgate Blanket Tote
- The PamBee
- Bamboo Travel Blankets
Hopefully one of the travel blankets in our lightweight travel blanket category will be the ultimate lightweight travel blanket, that fits your needs.
